Elastic is a software startup which started in Amsterdam and grew up-to 100 employees.
It was in October 2015 that amazon revealed they were actually copying Elastic's free software tool which could be used for searches and analyze data. Amazon infact made it a paid service even when ElastiSsearch was already available on amazon.
Amazon made much more money from what elastic had built. Elastic fired back by adding premium features and limited what companies like amazon could do with them when amazon duplicated many of those features. Amazon with its cloud computing arm has instilled fear in their competitors like no other company and infact proves how it brandishes power in the technical world.
Cloud computing is considered one of the technology industries largest and most lucrative business,offering computer power and software to companies and amazon is the single biggest provider.
Amazon Web Services is widely popular it has given an edge to its own services by making them more user friendly, they provide bigger offers to its rivals and bundling discounts to make its products less expensive.
What gives amazon the advantage is their broad reach with the customers, and start ups often have to agree to its restrictions on promoting their own products and voluntarily share product and client information with it, for the privilege of selling through amazon web services, the start ups pay a cut of their sales back to amazon.
Companies have even coined a word which is strip-mining software for what amazon is doing.
Jeff Bezos calls Amazon Web Services an idea no one asked for. now companies like Airbnb and General Electric essentially rent computing from amazon-otherwise known as using the cloud instead of buying and running their own systems. Some tech firms said they had found more customers through Amazon Web Services even some companies that have tangled with amazon have grown. Discussions went to bring in an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon and did not because of the reason that the processes would take too long.
