Increase in Sales of Lamborghini.

LAMBORGHINI SALES DRIVEN BY START-UP FOUNDERS AND SHARE MARKET INVESTORS

Lamborghini is the Italian luxury automobile manufacturers. Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the company in 1963 to compete with the established manufacturers such as the Ferrari by building a grand touring car. The brand always had an interesting story to tell. Based on the story how the company was started there is a famous tag line “never insult a tractor tycoon”.

Ferruccio was basically from a farming background. After the First World War he had two options, either to continue with the farming profession or to shift his profession to the manufacturing sector, as it was a booming sector. The wisely chose the second option. So he started his career as a mechanic. He was a highly skilled mechanic. His ability and skill had even helped him to get his jail sentence relaxed. Then after coming out of the jail, by the time Italy was controlled by the Germans he served the Germans by repairing their jeeps.

Later in the 1950s he along with three other mechanics started his first company which built tractors. The company had a small operational then, building about 200 tractor an year. Slowly the company got expanded. One of their models was the L33 which was a huge success. The government of Italy even subsidized the product for its farmers. This grew the company. In the 1960s the company produced about 30 tractors a day. The company’s R&D department was also well known. It has come up with an air-cooled tractor engine. The company also came up with a Helicopter concept which was not given permission to get executed.

During this time he had great interest for race cars and was fortunate enough to own many of them. His garage was filled with Ferraris and AMGs. But he was annoyed by the frequent repairs he had to encounter with his Ferrari. He found the car to be noisy and had frequent clutch failures. He took the vehicle to company. But Enzo Ferrari told him that “you will be able to drive tractors but you will not be able handle a Ferrari”. This insult made Ferruccio build his own super car. Which is the world famous Lamborghini now. The logo is inspired from his star sign. It could also be related to his interest towards the “bull fight”.

Let’s come to the present. It is believed that the automobile sector is going through a declining stage in India. But Lamborghini is witnessing a growth in its sales. They say that the first generation entrepreneurs and stock exchange investors and their main customers. But the most interesting fact about the Lambo is that its 50% of the sales are happening from the five southern states, namely Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.  Surprisingly one of the 63 cars of the world- Aventador SVJ 63 was bought by a businessman from Bangalore. Even when the industry had a downshift, Lamborghini sold 45 Urus last year and about 50 this year. The introduction of Urus had helped the growth to a large extend as India always has a welcoming gesture to SUVs.
