Google celebrates Urdu poet and reformer Kaifi Azmi's 101 birthday with a doodle
The late Urdu poet, lyricist and social change advocate Kaifi Azmi is noted for bringing Urdu literature into the film industry. January 14 marks his birth anniversary. Making renowned Indian Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi's google released a serene doodle on his 101st birth anniversary.
Azmi was born Syed Athar Hussian Rizvi in 1919 in Uttar Pradesh's Azhamgarh district. He composed his first collection poems Jhankar in 1943. His other poetry books include Aakhir-E-Shab, Sarmaya, Awaara Sajde, Kaifiyat and Nai Gulistan.Also he formed troika of post-independent Urdu poets.At 11 he composed his first ghazalstyle poem.
He inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's 1942 Quit India Freedom movement and moved to Bombay. He won numerous award for his literary contribution, including three filmfare awards for Garm Hawa in 1973. the prestigious Padma Shri Award for lliterature and education in 1974 and one of the literary honours, the Sahitya Akadami Fellowship, in 2002. He advocated for Women's equality which is one of the cause he championed in his lifetime. He also founded the NGO Mijwan Welfare Society to support various educational initiatives to improves.
Azmi dead on 10, 2002. His daughter is acclaimed actor Shabana Azmi. His wife, the writer, theatre and film actor Shaukat Kaifi died in November 2019.
Google said that with work ranging from passionate love poems and activist verses to Bollywood songs lyrics and screenplays,Azmi has become one of the most renowned poets of the 20th century in India, and his humanitarian efforts continue to impact people's lives today.
