Amazon commits 10,000 electric vehicles


AMAZON COMMITS 10,000 ELECTRIC VEHICLES TO ITS INDIAN DELIVERY FLEET BY 2025

E- commerce major amazon India, on Monday had announced that its fleet delivery vehicles in the country will include 10,000 electric vehicles by 2025. Amazon, in a statement said that it piloted electric vehicles in several cities across India in 2019 and now expanding the initiative across the country.
 They had also added that the learning from the piloted electric vehicles had helped the company to create salable and long term EV variants to build this large fleet. This announcement came days after the announcement of Americas e-tail giants that they had investment of $1 billion for digitizing small and medium businesses, and creation of one million jobs by 2025.

According to the Amazon’s report, the fleet of 10000 EV s including 3-wheeler and 4-wheeler- are designed and manufactured by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in India. These EVs are addition to the global commitment of 1 lakh EVs that are to be delivered by 2030 and saving 4 million metric tonnes of carbon per year by 2030.

 They had been working with several Indian OEMs to build a fleet of vehicles that ensure sustainable and safe deliveries of customer order.

The government encourages the adoption of electric vehicles in the country, and take steps towards setting up of charging infrastructure with the FAME 2 policy.

At amazon they are planning to build a supply chain that will minimize the environment impact of their operations and added that the company will continue to invest in electrification of its delivery fleet, thereby reducing its dependence on non-renewable resources.
In 2019, they had announced its plan to eliminate single use plastic in their packing purpose from its fulfillment centers by June 2020.
